JUST IN | Kevin Anderson survives marathon Round 1 match at US Open

South Africa’s Kevin Anderson won a marathon opening round match at the US Open in New York on Monday.

Kevin Anderson beat Czech Jiri Vesely 7-6 (7/1), 4-6, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/4) in a match which lasted 4 hours and 19 minutes.


Anderson hit an incredible 49 aces en route to booking his spot in the second round where he will face 11th-seeded Argentine star Diego Schwartzman.


Meanwhile, South Africa’s only other entrant in the men’s singles draw, Lloyd Harris, will face Russia’s Karen Khachanov on Tuesday at 17:00 SA time.
