South Africa Under-23 star Thabo Cele has revealed some shocking details regarding his failed move to Kaizer Chiefs.

The star midfielder has clarified the details surrounding his failed move to Kaizer Chiefs days after signing for Polish outfit Radomiak.

Cele was linked to a blockbuster return to South Africa following the Olympic games with Kaizer Chiefs his preferred destination however, the diminutive midfielder confirmed that after smooth negotiations, the deal somehow fell through!

Cele opens up on failed Kaizer Chiefs move

Speaking on Thabiso Mosia’s radio show on SAFM, Thabo Cele revealed that he preferred to return back to South Africa while going as far as saying he turned down offers in Portugal while negotiating with Kaizer Chiefs!

“I wasn’t really thinking about coming back home until there was serious interest from Kaizer Chiefs, but the negotiations fell through. I’m a fan of Chiefs and even my family supports Chiefs. So I was looking forward to it” Thabo Cele said during the radio interview.

“I had an offer in Poland, there was interest from Portugal. I waited for the move to Chiefs to happen but it didn’t happen. The club in Poland then came back with better communication. I’m not sure what happened with Chiefs. I was even watching their games. I was ready.

Some people would have seen it a step back coming back home. But Kaizer Chiefs is big club and I viewed it as a great opportunity to play in South Africa and also use it as an opportunity to go back to Europe.

Money was not the reason the deal to Chiefs fell through. Like I said, the negotiations were very smooth with Kaizer Chiefs, everything was going well. I really don’t know what happened.

‘But I have now moved to Poland, I’m looking forward to playing here. I’m excited. They are likely to use me as an 8. I’m also encouraged by the Bafana coach picking young players for his squads and they are doing well and I wish them all the best against Ethiopia.”

CAF Champions League runner’s up Kaizer Chiefs signed the likes of Cole Alexander and Phathutshedzo Nange in Central midfield positions however it’s undeniable that a player like Thabo Cele would have added much needed depth to their midfield.
