The South African Communist Party (SACP) provincial general-secretary, Themba Mthembu, says he is not happy with how the candidate list process was handled in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mthembu was speaking during the party’s 100 year anniversary celebrations.
At least seven municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal are amongst the 30 mentioned by the ANC that missed the Independent Electoral Commission’s registration deadline for candidates ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The most affected municipalities in the province are in the Zululand District which has five local municipalities.
Mthembu says the process was full of discrepancies.
“We told the provincial leadership that we as the communist party we are not happy about the list. There is so much corruption that happened during the list process of which it means we don’t even respect our branches, we don’t respect our communities, we don’t respect the African National Congress (ANC) that gave guidelines to choosing a candidate,” explains Mthembu.
