The EFF has reiterated its stance of referring to Indian people living in Phoenix, north of Durban as racists. The party was reacting to the DA’s controversial election posters in the area.
The DA in KwaZulu-Natal announced on Thursday that it was taking down the posters and apologised for the hurt they caused some people.
Speaking during an EFF election campaign in the Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape, the EFF’s deputy president Floyd Shivambu says they would rather lose votes than apologise.
“It’s racists who are intolerant of black people. That is what we have said and we are not ashamed about that. If it means that we are going to lose the Indian vote, let us lose it. We can’t just beg for votes of people who are killing other people. But also if Indians are going to think that they are going to vote for a political party because it is wrongly characterising them as heroes when they are murderers, then they are in a wrong country.”
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal says the DA’s plans of canvassing Indian votes by putting up controversial posters in Phoenix north of Durban, have backfired. The party was reacting to the DA’s provincial chairperson, Dean MacPherson’s announcement on Thursday that the posters are being taken down and apologising for the hurt they caused some people.
Provincial ANC spokesperson – Nhlakanipho Ntombela – says he does not believe that the DA’s apology is genuine.
