The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape says it has resolved to review its coalition with the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (ICOSA) at Kannaland, in the Little Karoo.

This follows calls from opposition parties and child rights organisations for the removal of the Mayor, Jeffrey Donson, and his Deputy, Werner Meshoa.

Donson was convicted of statutory rape in 2008 and Meshoa was convicted earlier this year for fraud and obstruction of justice.

ANC Provincial Spokesperson, Sifiso Mtsweni says their negotiating team has until Tuesday to engage with all parties and resolve the matter.

“While we respect and uphold the democratic wishes of Kannaland, who have on successive occasions chose to elect ICOSA as the majority party, the IPC (Interim Provincial Committee) resolved to mandate a negotiating team to review the coalition agreements in Kannaland municipality. The ANC stands opposed to any forms of GBV (Gender-based violence) and corruption and must at all times act in the best interest of our principles,” says Mtsweni .
