Former President Jacob Zuma is now back at his Nkandla home in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) after a short hospital stay last week, TimesLive reports.
The publication had reported that Zuma left his home to receive medical attention at a Johannesburg hospital, but as usual, the reason for the admission was not disclosed. TimesLive has cited two of Zuma’s brothers, Khanya and Joseph, who confirmed that the former president is back home.
“I called around noon and I was told to call back later because he was dealing with a lot of people who had come to see him at home. I called again this afternoon and I was told he is not available so he is home, there’s no problem. He is fine,” he said.
Jacob Zuma’s health: Why the secrecy?
While ex-president Jacob Zuma’s health struggles are no state secret, so much mystery surrounds the actual ailments. He required medical attention almost immediately after beginning to serve his 15-month prison sentence for contempt at the Estcourt Correctional Centre in KZN back in July – and it was also his supposed poor state of health, which prompted former Correctional Services Commissioner Arthur Fraser to grant him medical parole.
Well, Fraser’s decision is being challenged in the High Court in Pretoria as the Democratic Alliance (DA), Afriforum and Helen Suzman Foundation want it reviewed – which could be considered an indication of the the doubts surrounding the true state of his health. Many of his detractors reckon Zuma’s poor health has been exaggerated, especially in the latest instance, to get him out of jail.
True or not, the secrecy has undoubtedly raised more questions than answers. When contacted for comment, The Jacob Zuma Foundation would not be drawn to comment.
