Chiefs would have been hoping to build on a 1-0 victory over another Kwazulu-Natal based side Maritzburg United, but Amazulu denied them that momentum.
Billiat a forced absentee for Amakhosi
Before the match could even kick off, there was already one noticeable absentee in the Chiefs team sheet, in the form of forward Khama Billiat. The Zimbabwean international who proved instrumental to Chiefs win over Maritzburg United with his assist on Sunday, was confirmed missing as a forced change by coach Stuart Baxter, who then replaced him with Kgaogelo Sekgota.

The other change made by Baxter on the evening was the returning Njabulo Blom reclaiming his place on the right side of the Chiefs defence. Blom was down as ‘unavailable’ for the Maritzburg United game, where veteran utility defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele filled in to decent effect.
Sekgota replaced him
However, replacing a player Billiat who had already notched up four assists and three goals this season, the eyes and pressure were always going to be place on his replacement for the evening in Sekgota. Unfortunately for the former junior international, he struggled to get much in the form of supply, from a Chiefs side that usually sets up with three defensive midfielders.

When Sekgota did get on or closer to the ball however, he seemed to struggle to fashion any chance, or look a threat to the Amazulu defence, with many Chiefs in agreement that he failed to make the most of his rare start, and that he didn’t have the best of games in the colours of Amakhosi. Here is a look at some of the tweets about his impact or rather lack thereof in the game on the night.
What were your thoughts on Sekgota’s performance for Chiefs?
