Having started life as a single match on the WrestleMania card, Money In The Bank evolved into a standalone event.
Money in the bank has become one of the most highly-anticipated WWE events in the calendar known for its starmaking.
Money in the Bank
The main events are the men’s and women’s Money in the Bank ladder matches, which see the infamous briefcase suspended above the ring; the Superstar who plucks it from the air earns a guaranteed shot at any title of their choosing, at any time
Here we take a trip down memory lane to look back at some of its greatest moments in Money in the Bank history.
Dean Ambrose vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Cesaro vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn (Money In The Bank 2016)
Following the break-up of The Shield, Dean Ambrose endured a lengthy pay-per-view losing streak which included a bitter loss to Brock Lesnar during a WrestleMania match two months before Money In The Bank 2016. However, the famed Ladder Match turned that all around. He won this high-stakes Money In The Bank match and went on to cash in his briefcase in a match against his former partner Seth Rollins later on in the show to walk away with the World Championship.

Fans were treated to a very satisfying ending, as Daniel Bryan began his ascent to wrestling superstardom with a long-awaited victory. He moved on to win the World Heavyweight Championship by cashing in the briefcase at TLC later that year, defeating the Big Show to become champion in a match where we also witnessed saw the birth of his iconic “Yes!” catchphrase.

Mr Kennedy vs. CM Punk vs. Edge vs. Finlay vs. Jeff Hardy vs. King Booker vs. Matt Hardy vs. Randy Orton (WrestleMania 23) – 2007
WrestleMania 23 saw the third edition of the Money In The Bank ladder match and this was the first time that match would feature eight participants, instead of six, from all of the WWE’s brands. This was also the first time the match took place in a stadium environment and everybody who attended the spectacle was not disappointed. We watched as Edge perform his signature Spear on all of his opponents, which was later followed by Randy Orton’s legendary RKO from the ladder. Going in as a crowd favourite, Mr Kennedy went on to win the match, after knocking CM Punk off of one ladder by hitting him with another one. Ouch!

Edge vs. Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho vs. Christian vs. Kane vs. Shelton Benjamin (WrestleMania 21) – 2005
As the original Money In The Bank match, it has to be at the top of the list. It was undeniably one of the most exciting matches in sports entertainment history! It all began when Chris Jericho pitched the idea of a WrestleMania ladder match, with all competitors attempting to retrieve a briefcase suspended above the ring with a World Championship contract inside and his opponents obliged.
During a hotly contested contest, it was WWE Hall of Fame Edge who continued his streak of ladder match dominance on the grandest stage of them all when he retrieved the briefcase and became the first-ever “Mr Money In The Bank” in the process.
