Nosicelo Mtebeni: Man GUILTY of Fort Hare student’s savage MURDER

A little over three months since Nisicelo Mtebeni’s gruesome killing, her boyfriend Alutha Pasile has been found guilty for committing the heinous act which sent shockwaves across the country and grabbed national headlines.

The High Court in East London also convicted Pasile for defeating the ends of justice on Monday, 29 November 2021. The 25-year-old pleaded guilty to both counts.

The 23-year-old’s dismembered body parts were stuffed into a suitcase. Her other limbs were also found in a black plastic bag on Thursday, 19 August 2021, in Quigney, East London. Police said the body parts (in the black bag and suitcase) were discovered outside the couple’s home, while Mtebeni’s head and hands were discovered in Pasile’s room.

Nosicelo Mtebeni’s killing: What Alutha Pasile told the court

Giving his version of events as to what led to Nosicelo Mtebeni’s murder, Alutha Pasile told the High Court that he had noticed her odd behaviour, just days before. Mtebeni visited her home in Matatiele on 01 August  2021 and returned seven days later. When she returned Pasile said he noticed she had changed her cellphone password, which he didn’t understand because they had always shared each other’s cellphones.

Pasile then started to suspect that she was cheating on him.

“Pasile stated that on 16 August 2021 the couple enjoyed an evening of drinking together. However, he noticed that Mtebeni paid more attention to her cellphone than him. He confronted her and the two argued,” said the National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani.

The next day, he managed to crack the code into her cellphone and saw inappropriate messages between Mtebeni and another man.

He then grabbed a knife and stabbed her. However, the knife fell as she fought back. Pasile grabbed Mtebeni and pushed her hard against a wall. She hit her head, fell face down and died.In an effort to conceal his crime, he then conducted research on the internet on how to dispose of a body. He found a video which showed a body being dismembered , placed in a suitcase and thrown away. Pasile then bought himself the tik drug and smoked it as he struggled to sleep. The following day on  18 August 2021, he visited a local hardware store and bought the equipment he saw being used in the video to dismember the body. Pasile consumed more tik in order to give himself courage to dismember Mtebeni’s body.

Senior State Advocate Nickie Turner confirmed that the guilty plea was in accordance with information at her disposal. Judge Bheshe accepted Pasile’s guilty plea and found him guilty of both counts.

The state thereafter commenced with its case for sentence proceedings. It closed its case after leading the evidence of three witnesses.

The matter was postponed to this Thursday, 2 December 2021, for the pre-sentence report.
