Severe Weather Alerts


IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:



  1. Yellow level 2 WARNING for Severe thunderstorms with strong damaging winds, hail and possible heavy downpours are expected over parts of Mpumalanga and south-central parts of Limpopo, as well as the northern interior of KwaZulu-Natal.


FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:



  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central parts of the Free State and western parts of the North-West Province.

Temperature and UBV forecast


Gauteng:


Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.


The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.


Mpumalanga:


Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with widespread showers and thundershowers but scattered in the western Highveld areas. It will be very hot to extremely hot in the Lowveld.


Limpopo:


Temperature: Partly cloudy and hot to very hot but extremely hot in the Lowveld. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected from the afternoon but widespread in the extreme southern central parts.


North-West Province:


Temperature: Fine and hot, but partly cloudy in the east with isolated afternoon thundershowers.


Free State:


Temperature: Fine and warm, but partly cloudy in the east with isolated afternoon thundershowers.


Northern Cape:


Temperature: Fog along the coast in the morning, otherwise fine becoming partly cloudy and cool to warm with light rain over the south-western parts spreading to the southern high-ground by the afternoon.


Wind: The wind along the coast will be light and variable becoming moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly by the afternoon.


Western Cape:


Temperature: Cloud and cold to cool over the eastern parts with isolated morning showers otherwise partly cloudy and cool but warm over the western parts.


Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southeasterly to southerly becoming strong north of Cape Point in the afternoon.


The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.


Eastern Cape:


The Western half Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and rain, but isolated in places in the north, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.


The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly.


The Eastern half Temperature: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain, but scattered in places south of escapement.


The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be strong to near gale southwesterly at first, becoming moderate to fresh from late morning.


Kwazulu-Natal:


Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north-west. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the afternoon but scattered in the north.


Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southwesterly, becoming strong in the afternoon.


The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
