Severe Weather Alerts


IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:



  1. Yellow level 4 warning for INTERIOR WIND resulting in localised damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihood and livestock is expected over western parts of North West Province and Free State, central and eastern Northern Cape, central and western parts of Eastern Cape and Western Cape.

  2. An orange level 5 warning for DAMAGING WINDS is expected along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and East London resulting in disruptions to transport routes due to fallen frees and blown objects, damage to settlements and choppy seas.

  3. Yellow level 2 warning for WAVES resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay.

  4. Yellow level 4 warning for SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS resulting in localised damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihood and livestock is expected over the western parts of North West Province and Free State, eastern and southern parts of Northern Cape and Western Cape Province.


FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:



  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern interior of the Northern Cape

Temperature and UBV forecast


Gauteng:


Temperature: Partly cloudy to cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers.


The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.


Mpumalanga:


Temperature: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers along the escarpment becoming partly cloudy in the Highveld later.


Limpopo:


Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the east.


North-West Province:


Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and the western half where it will be windy.


Free State:


Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. It will be windy in the west.


Northern Cape:


Temperature: Cloudy to partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers clearing from the west. It will be windy and cool in the south.


Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-westerly.


Western Cape:


Temperature: Cloudy to partly cloudy and cool but warm in the east with isolated to scattered thundershowers and showers across most part of the province until the afternoon, but persisting into the evening over the west.


Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-westerly to westerly, becoming light and variable along the south coast from the afternoon.


The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.


Eastern Cape:


The Western half Temperature: Cloudy and cool but warm over the interior with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the south-east.


The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly becoming south-westerly from midday.


The Eastern half Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the south-west.


The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north easterly.


Kwazulu-Natal:


Temperature: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers except in the extreme north-east.


Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.


The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low.
