South Africa: Today’s latest news and headlines, Monday 22 November 2021

A lot can change overnight, or over the course of one weekend, but we’ll keep you in the know with the latest news stories and headlines in South Africa on Monday 22 November 2021.

For some, it was the road to riches on Sunday! It was literally money up’ for grabs’ after a CIT truck was bombed in Rustenburg. In the video, several South Africans can be seen flocking to the scene and grabbing as much money as possible from the damaged vehicle.

Meanwhile, it seems like we are slowly but surely making our way into the predicted fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic as the number of confirmed cases increases daily. The fourth wave should be the mildest one South Africa has experienced thus far due to higher herd immunity and the vaccine roll-out.

But will this ensure a brighter Christmas for all, with fewer restrictions? We will just have to wait and see.

Watch: Locals grab cash from bombed CIT truck in Rustenburg

Leading South African crime activist Yusuf Abramjee announced the armed robbery cash heist in the North West on Sunday afternoon. “CITRobbery Rustenburg NW. Cash van bombed.”

The CIT truck is seen blown up nearly into two. A maroon old school Mercedes Benz is seen crashed into the front of the cash van before the bombing. With the shock of the chaos, fire, and smoke noted, it is impossible to miss the scores of locals who helped themselves to the cash that was left all over the shattered truck.

KwaZulu-Natal teen crisis: 21 000 young girls fell pregnant in current financial year

An estimated 21 000 girls younger than 15 years old fell pregnant in KwaZulu-Natal in the current financial year.

KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza revealed this while speaking at the Mpandwini Area in Mbumbulu, south of Durban, where government and traditional leaders discussed the role of men in curbing Gender-Based Violence.

Party funding: ‘EFF has nothing to declare,’ says Malema

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has moved to assure supporters that there is nothing dubious about how the party gets its funding.

Malema addressed the party’s Siyabonga Rally in Thembisa, east of Johannesburg on Saturday, 20 November 2021.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) released a report which shows that the EFF and more than 300 other political parties failed to disclose who their funders were, following the local government elections.

The EFF has long been criticised for not revealing its funders, but Julius Malema says the party gets its money from supporters, through the sale of merchandise as well as party levies, which are paid by MPs, MPLs and councillors.

Western Cape: Car plunges down Bainskloof Pass – THREE kids DEAD

The Western Cape’s Department of Transport and Public Works has confirmed that three children have been tragically killed as a result of a car accident: The vehicle they were travelling in plunged down the Bainskloof Pass on Saturday evening, 20 November 2021.

The Bainskloof Pass is between Wellington and Ceres. The driver of the vehicle is a 60-year-old woman who managed to survive the accident but sustained some serious injuries, which she is treating in hospital. According to the Western Cape’s Department of Transport and Public Works spokesperson Jandre Bakker, the female driver refused to stop at three points and forcefully went through the closed boom-operated control point on the road.
