Soweto body parts case: Flavio Hlabangwane back in the dock

The murder case against Flavio Hlabangwane is expected to resume in the Protea Glen Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning, 22 November 2021.

Hlabangwane was arrested earlier this month after body parts were found in his Soweto home. It was his girlfriend who made the grim discovery: reportedly finding legs and arms inside his fridge, during a visit to the backroom of the Protea Glen home he had been renting. It is believed that he was not present and had been out running an errand.

According to police, Hlabangwane tried to commit suicide upon his arrest on Saturday by stabbing himself.

When Hlabangwane first appeared in the dock, the matter had to be postponed to allow for him to seek legal representation.

Flavio Hlabangwane’s incestuous relationship with victim

Murder-accused Flavio Hlabangwane’s appearance in court comes as it was recently learnt that his victim – Tshepang Pitse, was not just his girlfriend, but was also his cousin.

Speaking to SAFM, Pitse’s cousin Tsenolo says both Flavio Hlabangwane and his alleged victim were in an incestuous relationship for five years.

Tsenolo told the radio station that the relationship was no walk in the park for her sister as she was being abused by Hlabangwane. At some point, Tsenolo claims he threatened to take a protection order against her, accusing her of stressing Tshepang out.

“The relationship was very violent because there were some points whereby whenever I would call my sister, sometimes she would disclose to me that Flavio would choose what she wears and monitor where she goes,” Pitse said in the interview.

While Pitse’s head, arms and legs have been found, police are still searching for her torso.
