Death Toll Reaches 29 in Kariakoo Building Collapse as Rescue Operations End

Death Toll Rises to 29 in Kariakoo Building Collapse, Rescue Operations Complete

The death toll from the tragic building collapse at Kariakoo Market has reached 29, after nine additional bodies were recovered from the rubble.

In a statement to the press today, Government Spokesperson Thobias Makoba confirmed that the bodies were discovered during ongoing search and rescue operations. He also announced that rescue efforts were officially concluded on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Makoba expressed gratitude to the emergency teams and local authorities who worked tirelessly to recover the victims, and reassured the public that activities in the area would soon return to normal.

The collapse occurred earlier this month, when the multi-storey building at Kariakoo Market, one of the busiest commercial hubs in Dar es Salaam, suddenly gave way. Efforts to locate survivors had been ongoing, with search teams working around the clock despite challenging conditions.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse, with early reports suggesting potential issues with the building's structural integrity.

The community remains in shock as the full scale of the disaster continues to unfold, and condolences have poured in from across the nation for the victims and their families.
