Picture | Percy Tau had his first Al Ahly training yesterday, have you seen his new look?

Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau had his first training session with his new side Al Ahly yesterday, and he spotted a new look too.

Tau joined Al Ahly as a marquee signing from English Premier League side Brighton, during the transfer window in a move that divided many.

In the end those opinions didn’t matter much, as Tau was unveiled as a new Al Ahly player before swiftly flying back to South Africa to join up with the South African national team. Tau would end up starting both of new Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos’ first games in charge, and even saw his legitimate goal against Ghana ruled out by the assistant referee. Bafana Bafana would eventually run out 1-0 victors to take the lead in the group regardless.

Images of Tau’s new look have surfaced

Now after his latest exploits with Bafana Bafana, the first visuals and images of Tau finally getting his first opportunity to mix it up with his new Al Ahly teammates had since resurfaced on Wednesday night. The “Lion of Judah” was welcomed with a tunnel together with other new signings which seems like a traditional way of welcoming new arrivals at the Red Devils.

An image at the end of the tunnel shows Tau coming out of it, and spotting a different haircut having cut his hair since the last time most South Africans would’ve seen him after the World Cup Qualifier against Ghana. Just recently Al Ahly contract Director Amr Tawfik had revealed just how difficult it was for the club to convince both the pl and Brighton of the move.

Al Ahly had to fight for his services

He also admitted that Al Ahly had to fend off some interest from Belgian sides in order to secure Tau’s signature and that the presence of Pitso Mosimane, a fellow South African who coached the tricky winger at Mamelodi Sundowns proved to be a key trump card in getting the deal over the line.

Fraser stands by decision to release Zuma on medical parole

The national commissioner of correctional services, Arthur Fraser, stands by his decision to release former president Jacob Zuma.

He was speaking in an interview with SABC News.

Fraser is adamant that Zuma’s medical parole is both procedurally and legally sound.

He has dismissed allegations that he ignored the recommendations of the medical parole advisory board when he authorised Zuma’s release.

“I know the noise and perceptions that were created that I was a Zuma person. We have a responsibility to provide security and care in all instances when a person is brought in our care. We ensure that we do a full assessment including a health assessment. I took the decision to place him on medical parole and unlike all the stories, it’s legal and procedural,” he explains.

In conversation with Arthur Fraser:

Meanwhile, lobby group AfriForum says it has requested copies of the application for Zuma’s medical parole and the medical report that followed.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will take legal steps to have the decision to grant Zuma medical parole reviewed.

SASSA’s R350 grant: Monies could soon be collected at other ATMs

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has revealed that government is currently in talks with the South African Post Office and Postbank to consider other alternative access channels for people to receive SASSA’s R350 special grant.

Zulu was responding to a question posed to her by UDM MP Nqabayomzi Kwankwa about the long queues at paypoints where the R350 was being paid. He had expressed concern about recipients not providing their banking details, which essentially means more people are queuing for the grants, prompting further worry about whether COVID-19 protocol is being adhered to.

“Sassa is dependent on the provision of information on bank accounts which is provided by the applicants. In cases where no bank account details are provided, Sassa is obliged to effect payment through the post office, as there is no alternative,” the minister said.

“However, engagements with the post office and Postbank have been held to introduce alternative access channels for funds deposited into the accounts held by Postbank on behalf of the post office. This will allow for funds to be collected at participating merchants and Standard Bank ATMs thus reducing the number of people who have to collect over the counter at post offices. While this solution is yet to be tested, it is believed that it will significantly reduce the number of citizens who have to report in person at post offices”

SASSA R350 grant: Nine million applications received

Lindiwe Zulu also revealed that nearly nine million people have submitted their applications for the SASSA R350 special grant.

“In order to address some of the challenges which were experienced in the previous cycle of the R350 SRD grant the process has changed, to enable all applicants to provide banking details on application and not only when the application is approved. Information provided as at August 18 2021 is that, of the 8,931,375 applications received, 6,817,229 (76%) have provided information on bank accounts. This information still has to be verified to confirm which accounts can be used for the grant,” she said.

At the same time, the window period to change the method of payment is between 3-10 September, which means time is running out.
