Kaizer Chiefs starting XI prediction: DStv Premiership vs Amazulu

Kaizer Chiefs head into their clash with Amazulu under all sorts of pressure but does that mean Stuart Baxter will stick or twist regarding the starting XI.

Here we look at how Kaizer Chiefs might line up against Amazulu on Saturday.

After keeping a clean sheet last time out, we would expect that Daniel Akepyi will retain his place in goal halting the merry-go-round between the sticks.

Sifiso Hlanti’s sending off will open the door for Sibusiso Mabaliso to make just his second start for Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership. Baxter may also consider the services of Happy Mashiane.

Love them or hate them, Daniel Cardoso and Erick Mathoho will not be shifted from their place at the heart of the Kaizer Chiefs defence.

Reeve Frosler put in a decent shift in his first start of the season against Marumo Gallants and will more than likely continue in the role.

Kaizer Chiefs have little choice but to stick with central midfield duo Njabulo Blom and Cole Alexander, despite the latter being bullied by Gallants Miguel Timm in their last outing.

Bernard Parker assumed Lebogang Manyama’s role as a false nine, last time out and offered more than the man he replaced. Expect Baxter to revert to Parker in a bid to solve the problems in the final third.

On the wings, Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat should hold onto their places in the team.

Kaizer Chiefs failure to sign an out and out striker has left them with a huge problem in their quest to replace injured striker Samir Nurkovic in the starting XI.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo showed a great deal of intensity and effort without making much of an impact last time out but with only Lazarous Kambole in reserve, Ngcobo is likely to start up front. Kaizer Chiefs don’t have a target man to deploy which could see Baxter try a left-field option, but the risk of playing a centre back at nine is likely to outweigh the rewards of an experiment paying off.

Rugby Championship: Argentina vs Australia LIVE scores

Argentina vs Australia live scores; The Wallabies and Pumas round off their Rugby Championship campaign on the Gold Coast.

Argentina vs Australia LIVE scores

Preview

Greg Holmes will become the oldest Wallabies player since World War II after being included on the bench for their clash against Argentina on Saturday, while Sean McMahon was another surprise call-up.

A prop by trade, the 38-year-old Holmes played the last of his 27 Tests in 2016.

Now with the Western Force, he was brought into the camp by coach Dave Rennie to help out in Perth last month and has had such an impact that he has unexpectedly been given another chance.

Back-rower McMahon was also a shock inclusion on the bench, back for the first time since facing Scotland at Edinburgh in 2017 before taking a lucrative contract in Japan with Suntory Sungoliath.

That move ruled him out of further selection as an overseas-based player, but tweaks to the so-called “Giteau Law” now allow Rennie to select two foreign-based players with less than 60 Tests of experience.

“Both Greg and Sean have worked extremely hard on the field and around their detail off the field and they’re both super-excited to represent their country again on Saturday evening,” said Rennie.

“We’ve felt really well supported during all of our Tests in Australia this year and we’re looking to finishing the Rugby Championship with a performance the team and the country can be proud of.”

Their inclusion is another eye-opening move from Rennie, who stunned the rugby world when he re-called playmaker Quade Cooper earlier in the tournament after four years in the wilderness.

It proved to be inspirational with Cooper making a triumphant comeback at flyhalf.

He will start again for their re-match on the Gold Coast against Argentina, who are reeling after six players were ruled out of the clash for breaching coronavirus health orders, including tighthead prop Santiago Medrano and No 8 Pablo Matera.

Rennie made three changes to his run-on team, with Pete Samu forcing his way in for the first time this year.

He was named at blindside flanker while Jordan Petaia will start on the right wing with Marika Koroibete given the week off to spend time with his newborn child.

The only other change sees Darcy Swain rotate into the starting second row with Matt Philip shifting to the bench.

Australia are chasing four wins in a row for the first time in the Rugby Championship, while Argentina are looking to prevent a sixth straight defeat.

Saturday’s Test kicks off at 09:05 (SA time).

Rugby Championship: South Africa vs New Zealand LIVE scores

The 101st South Africa vs New Zealand Test takes place on Australian soil and with the Rugby Championship decided there is just pride at stake.

South Africa vs New Zealand LIVE scores

South Africa vs New Zealand preview

Pride means a lot to these two camps though and this is not likely to take on any sort of exhibition air.

The match at the CBUS Super Stadium kicks off at 20h05 (12h05 SA time) and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi said they are “hurting” after three defeats in a row, following back-to-back losses against the Wallabies and then being pipped 19-17 by the All Blacks through a late penalty goal last weekend, and he added that the team were determined to finish the competition on a winning note.

“It’s all about the way we play, so all we can do is put in the hard work,” said Kolisi.

“The attitude is there; we just have to take our opportunities and get the desired result.

“We are not giving up.

“I thought we brought the intensity last Saturday, but we didn’t take our opportunities, and we lost the match in the last two minutes.

“Our preparation this week has been good, although as a team we are disappointed with the results, but our focus is on finishing the tour on a strong note.

“There are people at home supporting us and hopefully our hard work on the training field pays off tomorrow.

“It is tough for us as a team,” said Kolisi.

“We are hurting just as our fans are hurting because we are preparing well, but we are not getting the results. But we’ll keep working hard.

“All we can control is our discipline and attitude, and we will give it our best tomorrow. Only our actions will change how people feel.”

All Blacks coach Ian Foster said they were keen to finish the Rugby Championship on a high.

“The energy levels are high in the team, it’s our fifth Test in a row, and we’re highly motivated ahead of another big Test against South Africa and the last Test of the Championship,” said Foster.

“We’ve achieved the Championship title, which we’re really proud to have achieved. The fact that we now have the chance to achieve a potential Grand Slam against our Southern Hemisphere opponents is pretty special. I’m excited by that and it has already given this weekend’s Test an edge.”

Foster said the All Blacks were looking for improvement in their game across the board this week: “We learnt some lessons last week. We didn’t look after the ball as well as we could have and some of our work at the ruck wasn’t as good as we wanted. We have to lift our performance in that area and the team is keen to get that right this weekend.”

Orlando Pirates starting XI prediction: DStv Premiership vs Cape Town City

Orlando Pirates starting XI prediction: The Sea Robbers will be out to bounce back from defeat to Sundowns when they travel to the Mother City this weekend.

Here we look at how Orlando Pirates might line up against Cape Town City on Saturday 2 October 2021.

Orlando Pirates starting XI prediction

With Richard Ofori a long term injury absentee (he was ruled out of international duty next month), Siyabonga Mpontshane is likely to continue in goal. Mpontshane wasn’t really culpable in the two goals Sundowns banged in with the defensive line leaving him exposed.

Innocent Maela could return to the starting lineup at left back, with Paseka Mako likely to be made the scapegoat for a poor showing by the entire backline.

Despite their poor display against Sundowns, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Happy Jele should retain their places as the centre back pairing.

Bandile Shandu was comfortably the best player in the defence last time out and should be the first name pencilled into the team sheet at right back.

In midfield, Goodman Mosele has probably done enough to get away with a sub-par showing last weekend, but Abel Mabaso’s legginess suggests he needs a break with Siphesihle Ndlovu likely to receive a late birthday present in the form of a recall to the Orlando Pirates starting XI.

If fit, Vincent Pule and Deon Hotto will almost certainly start in the wide areas with the pair creating plenty of chances in their most recent outing.

Up front the failure to convert those chances might be remedied by deploying a second striker to aid Tshegofatso Mabasa and after several matches on the bench it could be Kwame Peprah’s time to shine.

Orlando Pirates Starting XI predicted

Siyabonga Mpontshane, Innocent Maela, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Happy Jele, Bandile Shandu, Goodman Mosele, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Vincent Pule, Deon Hotto, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kwame Peprah.
