Wizkid and Tems Receives Platinum Awards For Their Joint Record, ‘Essence’ In US

Nigerian artistes, Wizkid and Tems have received their platinum plaques for Essence in the US.

In the video making rounds on social media, Tems and Wizkid were seen at an event hosted by RIAA, receiving their awards.

Recall In September, the Recording Industry Association of America reported that Wizkid’s Essence has been certified platinum in the US.

A song is issued a platinum record if it has sold over #1 million units. An album is certified to be platinum if it has sold over 2 million copies and more.

Essence is a track off Wizkid’s Made In Lagos Album. It was released in 2020. The remix of the song featured Justin Bieber, and was released 2021 off Wizkid’s Deluxe album.

Davido Shares How He Became Famous In The US

King of Afrobeats, Davido has revealed how his music got so big in the US.

In his Interview with Trevor, Davido said his music and its success began with Nigerians in Atlanta. According to him, Nigerians would go to club in Atlanta, spend $50,000 and more on drinks with instructions that only Davido’s songs should be played for their Dorime.

David also recounted how he heard stories of girls who would go to the club and request for only his songs from the DJs.

He said that their requests and shown love made him famous. Davido revealed that when he finally returned to Atlanta in 2013, he sold out all the venues of his shows with exposure or promotion.
