Rennie recalls France-based muscle for northern hemisphere tour

Australia coach Dave Rennie has named a trio of France-based Wallabies in locks Will Skelton and Rory Arnold, and hooker Tolu Latu in a 37-man squad featuring four uncapped players for the northern hemisphere tour.

Arnold and Latu rejoin the Wallabies for the first time since the 2019 World Cup, while man-mountain Skelton makes his first squad since 2016, adding depth and muscle to counter the Six Nations packs.

Australia face Japan in Oita on October 23 before heading to Britain for tests against Scotland (November 7), England (November 13) and Wales (November 20).

Rennie has long planned to bring back the France-based trio as Australia relaxes an eligibility rule that barred overseas players with less than 60 test caps from selection.

However, they may not be available until the England clash at Twickenham due to club commitments and welfare concerns.

“We’ll make a decision around how they shape up when they come in,” Rennie told reporters on Friday.

“But certainly we want to be using all three of those guys against Scotland.”

Australia head into the tour with confidence after finishing runner-up behind New Zealand in the Rugby Championship on the back of four straight wins against South Africa and Argentina.

The explosive Samu Kerevi was included, with Rennie playing down the severity of the midfielder’s ankle injury from the second match against Argentina.

But Kerevi and fellow Japan-based players fly-half Quade Cooper and loose forward Sean McMahon are unlikely to play in the Oita test due to club commitments.

Among the uncapped players, Rennie has included outside back Izaia Perese after his recovery from shoulder reconstruction along with his New South Wales Waratahs teammate centre Lalakai Foketi.

Melbourne Rebels prop Pone Fa’amausili and ACT Brumbies hooker Connal McInerney are the other pair hoping for a test debut.

Having retained Folau Fainga’a and dropped fellow hookers Brandon Paenga-Amosa and Jordan Uelese, Rennie admitted he had yet to settle on his preferred number two.

“Fair to say,” he said. “Connal has been in our midst before. We like him. He’s old school.”

While rewarding those who performed late in the Rugby Championship, Rennie has sent a number of developing talents back to their Super Rugby sides including flyhalf Noah Lolesio, hooker Lachlan Lonergan and loose forwards Fraser McReight and Harry Wilson.

But a number of established players have also missed out including number eight Isi Naisarani, lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and prop Scott Sio.

Utility back Matt Toomua and fullback Tom Banks were omitted through injury.

Backs: Quade Cooper, Filipo Daugunu, Lalakai Foketi, Jake Gordon, Reece Hodge, Len Ikitau, Andrew Kellaway, Samu Kerevi, Marika Koroibete, Tate McDermott, James O’Connor, Hunter Paisami, Izaia Perese, Jordan Petaia, Nic White, Tom Wright.

Forwards: Allan Alaalatoa, Rory Arnold, Angus Bell, Pone Fa’amausili, Folau Fainga’a, Michael Hooper (capt), Feleti Kaitu’u, Tolu Latu, Rob Leota, Connal McInerney, Sean McMahon, Matt Philip, Tom Robertson, Izack Rodda, Pete Samu, Will Skelton, James Slipper, Darcy Swain, Lachlan Swinton, Taniela Tupou, Rob Valetini

Independent candidates will help reduce corruption: Maimane

One SA Movement leader, Mmusi Maimane says independent candidates taking part in local government administration would help in reducing levels of corruption.

His statement comes after the movement unveiled a number of independent candidates campaigning under its umbrella on Wednesday.

He says corruption has deprived residents of basic services such as water and sanitation.

Maimane says political parties have failed South Africans.

“The corruption at municipal level is at its worst. Municipalities are at the forefront of delivering the services and don’t require a political ideology not Marxist, socialist to put on water and electricity. We have to build citizens who have already have been active in their communities. So, that is why I think it is crucial to vote for independents because ultimately these are the people who come from their communities.”

On Wednesday, Maimane spoke at the unveiling of One South Africa Movement independent candidates:

Last month, Maimane unveiled independent candidates under the banner of the New Horizon Movement which plans to contest all forty-five wards in the embattled Emfuleni Local Municipality, South of Johannesburg.

In the video below, the independent candidates speak:

Zayn collaborates with ARNETTE for eyewear collection

“I’m very interested in design and the creative elements of a campaign, so it was quite cool to work with a brand like ARNETTE,” states Zayn. “The team has been really open and receptive to my ideas and have been a great partner.”

Zayn’s expressive vision plays out like a multi-level videogame, creating a surreal escape that leaves the city in the dust of a neon light storm. From graffiti art to retro race heroes, this creative collaboration captures an awakening of creative minds. Now unexpected, the mood of the collection shifts from vaporwave visuals to retro in a flash, a note of 90s nostalgia and loads of contemporary attitude.

“The whole retro vibe of the campaign is sick,” states Zayn who adds, “One of my favorites is the Drophead, which pushes an iconic shape to the next level with the updated design.”

Showcasing five edgy, yet easy-to-wear styles named after iconic retro cars, the collection presents innovative bio-acetate and iconic metal shapes that take us on a ride from 80s inspired graphics into the experimental dimension of a new world. Featuring powerful bold square profiles, low-and-wide wing shapes and deeprim metal, exclusive new bleached tie-dye colors, and colorful see-through and flash mirror shades, each has a defined look and style. Marked out with graphic Z lens logos, each pair reflects Zayn's signature approach to style.
