Who is Maguette Ndiaye? The referee at the centre of the Bafana Bafana v Ghana storm

Senegal referee Maguette Ndiaye – or Ndiaye Maguette or even N’Diaye Maguette – is without question the most hated man in South African football circles at present.

He awarded a dubious penalty to Ghana in their final 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifier against Banana Bafana.

Black Stars veteran Andre Ayew calmly slotted the penalty to give Ghana a 1-0 win over South Africa which was enough to see them top the group and go through along with the other nine group winners to the next phase of qualifying.

Ultimately, the five countries to represent Africa at next year’s World Cup in Qatar will be determined after the next phase.

Maguette Ndiaye’s (let’s call him that) handling of the qualifier prompted SAFA to file an official complaint with FIFA requesting a replay of the match on the grounds that it was unlawfully manipulated.

FIFA promised to investigate and report back last week already, but at the time of publishing we’ve heard nothing! That doesn’t sound like good news.

And SAFA are not happy!

But what do we know about Maguette Ndiaye – besides the fact he goes by several names!

Not much to be honest.

Ndiaye was born on 1 September 1986, making him 35-years-old and he is the son of former international referee Pape Moussa Ndiaye.

Outside of refereeing, Maguette Ndiaye is employed as a physical education teacher at Maurice Delafosse Public Secondary School near the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar.

His earnings from his teaching job, based on the industry standard in the West Africa country, are roughly 430 000 XOF (approximately R14 000).

Maguette Ndiaye could face a lengthy ban

Ndiaye has officiated in World Cup qualifiers, the Club World Cup, CAF Super Cup, AFCON finals, Under-20 World Cup, Africa Nations Championship and CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup matches.

In recent weeks reports have surfaced suggesting Ndiaye will not be selected for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and could in fact face a ban from officiating.

Nzimande slams DA’s approach on language policy to attract Afrikaans speaking voters

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Blade Nzimande has lashed out at the Democratic Alliance (DA), saying it is using the Language Policy Framework of Higher Institutions to attract Afrikaans speaking voters.

He was answering oral questions in the National Assembly.

The DA asked Nzimande why he thinks that Afrikaans and all Khoi, San and Nama languages are not being excluded or disadvantaged by definition of indigenous languages in the language policy framework of higher institutions.

Afrikaans to be phased out at the University of Pretoria:

The Minister said all languages are protected, however attention is given to all African indigenous languages that were suppressed in the past and Afrikaans was privileged.

“It is a fight between the DA and the FFPlus as to who is the best representative of the Afrikaans language and the Afrikaans speakers, and I am just being collaret damage in what is actually an electoral and this issue arose now in the lead up to the local government.

The DA is however scared that the FFPlus is taking its votes away from them that is why they don’t deal with the real issues trying to appeal to Afrikaans speakers in order to increase the vote of the DA.”

JUST IN: Music Legend, Clarance Avant’s Wife, Jacqueline Shot & Killed In Home Invasion Robbery

Music legend, Clarence Avant’s wife, Jacqueline was reportedly shot and killed in a horrific robbery at their Beverly Hills home.

Jacqueline was said to be 81-years-old at the time of her death.

According to reports from TMZ, the home invasion unfolded at the Trousdale Estates, a high-end neighborhood in Beverly Hills.

Police responded to a home invasion call at 2.30 am on Tuesday night; the caller told the dispatcher someone had been shot, the outlet reported.

Jacquline had allegedly been taken to a nearby hospital by the time cops arrived on the scene.

A source close to the family told TMZ that Clarence was home at the time of the incident.

It is unknown at this time if he was hurt.

Clarence, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, is the subject of the Netflix original documentary, The Black Godfather.
