A wet weekend with possible flooding, severe thunderstorms, hail and strong winds is expected in Gauteng and other parts of SA on Saturday and Sunday.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for these conditions.
It is monitoring a potential risk of road flooding for motorists across the road network in Gauteng and other provinces this Saturday and Sunday.
“On a broader scale, residents in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the Free State, and North West, as well as the northern areas of KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern and Western Cape, should be aware of the risk of flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas,” the SAWS said.
A cut-off low pressure system is expected to make landfall in the west causing widespread showers and thundershowers across most parts of RSA on Saturday and Sunday.

Showery conditions are expected across many areas in the country on Saturday. This excludes the eastern regions of the Vhembe and Mopani districts.
Flash-flooding can be expected in the low-lying areas of the eastern Free State, the southern half of North West, and Gauteng.
The Midlands, northern areas of KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga were also at risk of flooding, the SAWS said.
“The residents of informal settlements, especially those along river basins, are advised to take care, as such dwellings could be exposed to flooding.
“Disaster management practitioners are advised that some communities in the above-mentioned areas could become displaced and require emergency shelter,” it furthermore said.
According to the SAWS the extreme weather conditions anticipated in the days ahead relate to the expected development of a so-called “cut-off low pressure system” in the upper atmosphere, which is likely to be positioned over the western areas of the Northern Cape on Saturday.
“Severe thunderstorms associated with heavy downpours can be expected over the central and northern parts of the Eastern and Western Cape, the eastern areas of the Northern Cape, as well as the western parts of the Free State and North West provinces.”

Motorists are further advised that driving conditions in some areas are likely to become dangerous due to poor visibility and slippery roads.
Moreover, extra care should be taken when negotiating bridges and low-water crossings that are susceptible to flash-flooding.
“Other thunderstorm-related hazards include the risk of large amounts of small hail, which may cause damage to vehicles and infrastructure.
Additionally, strong winds may result in difficulty in navigation at sea with short-term disruptions of small harbours and ports between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas on Saturday,” it said.
As the weather system migrates further eastwards on Sunday, weather conditions are correspondingly expected to shift to the east.
“However, on Sunday evening and overnight into Monday morning, the cut-off low will weaken into a steep upper trough feature. Consequently, surface winds over the south-eastern parts of the country (including the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and southern Free State) will be fairly strong during this particular period.”
The SAWS said a return to the familiar cycle of the afternoon and early evening thunderstorms could be expected for the eastern parts of the country, extending from Monday to at least Thursday next week.
New Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has only been officially in the job for one season, but has already identified his first transfer target.

According to the latest reports Rangnick is expected to go back to one of his former sides to secure his first Manchester United signing.
Even though Manchester United looked to have had an outstanding previous transfer window under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, fans still felt there was something missing. A section of the club’s supporters always felt as if, although the team secured the signings of superstars, Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, they were still adamant that the squad lacked a midfield signing.

Although many midfield names were branded about by the media, including the likes Eduardo Camavinga, Ruben Neves, Saul Niguez and Declan Rice, under the tutelage of Solskjaer, none of the above were seen signing for Manchester United. Now it is thought that Rangnick has also identified that position as the first he would like to rectify at the club. His target, however, is not one of the names mentioned above, nor is it one ever linked to the Red Devils before.
According to widespread reports in Europe Rangnick is targeting his former midfielder at RB Leipzig to help him solve the midfield problem at the club. The player in question Amadou Haidara, and the Daily Mail UK even goes as far as claiming that Manchester United are scheduled to watch him in action Union Berlin and Manchester City.

If Haidara’s past comments are anything to go by then Rangnick won’t even have to do any convincing to get him to sign on the dotted line for Manchester United. In 2019 he didn’t mince his words at all, while explaining his desire to one day turn out for the Red Devils.
“My dream club is Manchester United, I will fight with all my strength to one day play for that club.” Haidara told Foot Mali. Now with all the rumours floating around and intensifying daily, it seems as if Rangnick maybe about to make his dreams finally come true.
The mining industry has once again been struck with tragedy after four workers died in two separate incidents at Sibanye Stillwater operations in the Free State and North West on Friday, 4 December 2021.
According to Sibanye Stillwater, a mineworker at its Khuseleka shaft in Rustenburg, North West, passed away in the early hours due to a fall of ground incident.
“Later this morning, at about 10am, three colleagues at shaft three, at the Beatrice operations, passed away, following a tragic trackless mobile machinery incident. The board and management of Sibanye-Stillwater extend their sincere condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased,” the company said.
Sadly, that’s not all: Earlier this week, one other mineworker died in a blasting incident. Sibanye Stillwater CEO Neil Froneman has expressed concern over the rise in mining-related fatalities, which have unions up in arms.
“Despite our extraordinary efforts this year, the number of fatal incidents we have experienced are of grave concern for management and the board of Sibanye-Stillwater. We are appalled by the loss of our employees’ lives at our mines over the past year. While we cannot rectify the harm that has occurred, we will continue to support the families as best we can in their grief,” Froneman said.
This year alone, 18 mining employees have lost their lives.
Sibanye Stillwater Vice President James Wellsted told Newzroom Afrika that both sites in the Free State and North West have been closed and will remain closed until an investigation is complete.
“We’ll be going to the site where the incident happened with the regulators and inspectors to determine what happened so we can avoid it the future. There has been an increase in incidences recently despite all the safety precautions that are in place, we will be launching an investigation to determine what has been causing all these incidences,” Wellsted said.
Actress Amanda du Pont accused musician and television personality Jub Jub of raping her via a video posted to Instagram on 2 December. This posed a question of rape within relationships.
Jub Jub claimed he “smashed” Amanda du Pont on an episode of Podcast And Chill on 1 December – but the actress claimed she was raped by the Uyajola 9/9 host for two years.
“I was raped, physically and emotionally abused for two years by Jub Jub. The only thing I did wrong was keep quiet. But that ends here I will not be publicly ridiculed by this criminal. Him and Mac G saw it fit to drag my name on their podcast for clout at the cost of amplifying a Gender Based Violence Case,” she said.
After Amanda’s allegations – Broadcast journalist and spokesperson to minister Nathi Mthethwa, Masechaba Khumalo claimed that she was also raped by Jub Jub. She went on to say that she was a virgin and this took place at his mother, “Mama Jackie’s” house.
“I believe @AmandaDupont. Molemo Maarohanye (Jub Jub) raped me too. It happened in Mama Jakie’s house in Naturena. He was my boyfriend. I was a teenager. I was a virgin,” tweeted Khumalo.

Amanda was considered to be in a relationship with Jub Jub at the time. Khumalo also said that Jub Jub was her boyfriend at the time. This poses the question – Can you be raped by your partner? Experts say yes!
It all comes down to consent. If you do not consent to sex, that make’s it unconsensual sex which can fall under sexual assault or rape.
“Any time someone forces himself/herself on you sexually without your consent, this can be sexual assault or rape. Even if you’re married to or in a relationship with the person who is assaulting or raping you, this doesn’t make it any less real,” according to Womens Law.
A widely-reported news items states that Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif’s wedding supposedly scheduled for December 9 in Jaipur, has imposed several pre-conditions on the invitees. These include: no disclosure of wedding attendance, no photography, no sharing pictures on social media, no sharing location on social media, and no contact with the outside world till you leave the venue, etc.
